Dixons has hit back in the war of the electrical retailers by chopping prices storewide by 5% until December 22.  Margins have been eroded aggressively by the electrical retailers this Christmas with waves of discount codes and offers from Currys, Comet and Dixons.  The latest cut by Dixons is in response to both Currys and Comet extending their discount code offers right up until Christmas in most cases.

This latest Disons discount codes replaces all previous 5% and 3% off offers which were generally product related.  This is a blanket 5% and can be used on anything from an LCD TV to an Ipod to a food mixer. 

It’s great news for shoppers code looking for that last minute bargain.  If you need something very quickly you can also get very prompt delivery if you pay a bit extra.

Maplin has extended its 3 for 2 offer on toys until Christmas Eve – although you’ll obviously need to order before then to be sure of delivery for Christmas.

Dixons has taken its festive offering right to the wire by extending its main discount code of 3% off all sales right up to Christmas Eve.  The Dixons discount code will now expire at 9am on December 22 when it will be replaced with a new offer – which means they’ve extended it by a further 2 weeks.  This is great news for shoppers looking to save money in the last 2 weeks before Christmas.However, it comes as no surprise.  The Dixons discount code was originally introduced as a VAT price drop but with electrical stores cutting prices furiously, competition is rife.  And discount codes are a big influence now on shopper behaviour online.

Expect to see Comet and Currys follow suit as they both have discount codes expiring within the next couple of days.

Even PC World, which is reluctant to use voucher codes, hopped on the bandwagon this week and issued a discount code offering 5% off all digital photo frames until Christmas Eve.

Currys is ramping it up for Christmas as the retail war in games consoles hots up.  Currys is offering the new Playstation 3 160GB console with 3 FREE games for just £341.56.  This is one of the latest offers from Currys which is aiming to steal a march on its competitors in the electricals marketplace.

Comet has become one of the first retailers to pass the recent VAT cut onto its customers.  It is doing this both online and in-store.  Although the Chancellor, Alistair Darling, had urged all retailers to pass on the cut, it is very likely that customers will notice little difference this Christmas.

A major tax change is difficult for online stores to integrate overnight plus many stores have pre-printed brochures and stock lists that would become redundant in the lead up to Christmas.  The timing itself makes it a problem for businesses as they gear up for the end of the year.  Even the Federation of Small Businesses voiced its concerns over speedy implementation.

So Comet’s swift change is to be applauded and they make the announcement on their website.

Currys is gearing up for Christmas by issuing a whole series of new discount codes in the run up to Christmas.  Aimed at the mid-level market, these discount codes offer money off purchases of a range of items from mp3 players, Hi-Fi systems, home cinema, printers, digital cameras, digital photo frames, Sat Nav and dishwashers.

Currys discount codes have previously tended to be very short-lived but these codes are valid right up until 5pm on December 8, giving shoppers plenty of time to cash in.

The price war among electric retailers this Christmas shows no signs of abating and you can expect more discount codes from Currys, Dixons and Comet in the run up to Christmas.
